I woke up to a rather pleasant surprise this morning. Among other notifications on my recently purchased Motorola Turbo (XT1225), was one that of a new system update. I immediately initiated the download expecting it to be a minor patch. Turns out it was an update to Android, taking it to version 5.0.2.
The update for the Indian version of the Moto Turbo comes in as a surprise, since Motorola had declared that they would be taking the phone directly to Android 5.1 on Verizon (where its called Droid Turbo), skipping Android 5.0 altogether. It was expected that the international version of the phone would share the same fate. Recent leaks had suggested that the update was expected to hit the device sometime in June this year. But no harm done here, of course.
At 16.7MB, it’s not a very big update and doesn’t take that long to install either (a few minutes perhaps). I’m not seeing much of visual changes for now, but it’s been only a few hours since I got the update and as such, I haven’t been able to explore properly. What I do notice is that the touch screen feels much more responsive than earlier. Also, my AnTuTu score has jumped from 42,273 earlier to 44,787.
Hopefully the update also addresses the overheating issues and battery woes some users are facing. Let’s also hope Motorola delivers the next update (Android 5.1) to the Moto Turbo in the coming weeks.
